Wampler Slowed by Mechanical Issue During OCRS Event at Lawton

Inside Line Promotions - LAWTON, Okla. (April 29, 2015) - A mechanical issue plagued Cody Wampler throughout the Oil Capital Racing Series event at Lawton Speedway last Saturday.

"For us it wasn't that great of a night, but it was a great turnout," he said. "They had like 38 cars. We went to push off for the heat race and the engine sounded like it was missing. We had just put some spark plugs back in. It sounded like the wires were crossed or something so I didn't go out on the track."

Wampler, who was slated to line up eighth in his heat race, returned to his pit to diagnose the problem. That relegated him to the back of a B Main, which transferred the top four to the main event.

"We checked a few things and busted it off and it sounded fine," he said. "Then when we went on the track for the B Main it was missing again. We thought it might have been fuel issues and it'd clear out, but it never did. We ran the whole race anyway."

Wampler rallied from his 13th starting position to sixth place by working the bottom groove, but that line began to slow in the closing laps.

"The bottom went away and I went to the top, but didn't have the power to run up there on seven cylinders," he said. "So we didn't make the show, but we found the problem. I think we had a rocker arm that was worn out."

Wampler ended with a seventh-place result in the B Main. The team is in the process of fixing the problem prior to this Saturday's race at Lawton Speedway.

"I inherited this car about two weeks before the season started," he said. "I was trying to do a winters worth of work in a few weeks. It's just bugs we keep finding. I think the car is going to work well. I'm really optimistic if we can just get some of these things lined out we can have a competitive car."
