Wampler Opens Season with New Opportunity at Lawton Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - LAWTON, Okla. (April 14, 2015) - Cody Wampler is more than excited about his racing opportunity this season.

Wampler has teamed up with car owner Randall Buzbee to compete for the champ sprints track championship at Lawton Speedway this season.

"He's been around for a while and is fun to race with," Wampler said. "I'm really thankful for the opportunity and the partnership with Randall."

Wampler kicked off the year last Saturday at the quarter-mile track after missing the season opener the first weekend of April.

"Last Friday at noon I still had one rod out of the motor and I had to get it resized," he said. "We were thrashing to get it together. We had fuel pressure issues on the practice night (in late March) and we made some adjustments, but in the heat race on Saturday we were still battling it."

Wampler, who started his heat race on the inside of the fourth row, pulled off the track after a couple of laps because of the fuel pressure problem.

That lined him up on the outside of the eighth row for the main event.

"We made it about 10 laps in and had gotten inside the top 10 and had some overheating issues," he said. "The motor got hot so we pulled off from that. As far as the race went up to that point we were getting used to the setup. It's a whole new way of a setup from what I've been doing. In the first five laps I made a couple of mistakes getting used to it. The last three or four laps we passed a few cars and I was making some headway. We got a caution and I looked down and the motor was hot so I decided to play it safe."

Wampler ended with a 15^th-place result.

"We could have finished in the top five if we would have been able to finish the race," he said. "I think we'll be really good when we get things lined out."

Wampler is scheduled to return to Lawton Speedway this Saturday.
