Wampler Endures Rough Heat Race to End Night
Early at Lawton Speedway
Inside Line Promotions -
LAWTON, Okla. (July 14, 2014) - A rough night at
Lawton Speedway can't keep Cody Wampler down.
Wampler and his team took a
lot of positives out of last Saturday's race, which
ended early because of a couple of issues in his
heat race.
"We had some hard luck," he
said. "In the heat race we lost brakes and we also
got a rock in the radiator. We didn't have stuff to
get it all back together so we didn't get to start
the feature."
After starting on the
outside of the second row of his heat race, Wampler
was caught up in a melee midway through the race.
"They had a red flag and a
restart," he said. "Two cars in front of us stumbled
and stacked us up on the restart. They threw a
caution and that car did it again on the next
restart. We all piled up again. I went to the
infield to miss him and a couple of guys got by me."
Despite a lack of brakes
and the radiator issue, Wampler was able to finish
his heat race before realizing the extent of the
damage. Regardless, he kept a positive attitude
about the laps he was able to complete throughout
only his third race of the season.
"We got the car to where
it's running well," he said. "We're close. It's just
getting these small things ironed out. The car was a
little more balanced the way I like it."
Wampler is taking this
weekend off as his oldest daughter is getting
married. He will return to action on July 26 at
Lawton Speedway.
