Wampler
Battles Carburetor Issues on
Championship Night at Lawton
Inside Line
Promotions - LAWTON, Okla. (Aug. 31,
2014) - Things didn't go as planned for
Cody Wampler on Saturday.
Wampler had
high expectations entering the
championship night at Lawton Speedway.
"I thought we
were getting things lined out," he said.
"On the two-barrel sprint car we had
borrowed a carburetor earlier this
season. It didn't work very well so we
borrowed another one. A couple of weeks
ago we got our new one back and tried
it, but it didn't work. We had sent this
carburetor back and they found some
things to fix. We got it back this week
and thought it was going to be ready to
go."
Unfortunately,
it still gave Wampler and his race team
a few issues throughout the night.
"It kind of had
a flutter to it in hot laps," he said.
"It wasn't quite crisp. The track was
still greasy and it wasn't putting any
kind of load on the car. I went out for
the heat race and it wasn't running
clean off the bottom. The track had
slicked off and we were a little loose,
too."
Wampler dropped
from the pole position to a fourth-place
result in his heat race.
"We made some
adjustments on it for the feature," he
said. "We were on the side of being
tight. When the carburetor was loading
up I couldn't drive myself out of being
tight. We fell back a few spots. We were
just in the way. When I'd go to get back
on the gas it wouldn't take off."
After having to
restart last following a caution,
Wampler rebounded to post an 11th-place
result.
"I think the
jetting is a little off," he said.
"We're going to change a couple of
things on it and go from there.
Everything else with the car is good. It
just didn't run clean."
